The ad for the Wizard Desk touts its "lifetime warranty".Its a good thing, because you will need it!

First, the good points:(1) super lightweight aluminum top and legs (not joints - see below) make this about the lightest portable desk I have seen - so light that you can tuck it under your arm when folded, (2) the 3 leg segments are marked at each joint with the angle at which the joint is set, so you can dial in the opposite leg segments to the same angle, (3) lifetime warranty (yet to be tested, see below).

Now, the bad:

(a) The joints are plastic - and very low grade plastic at that. They have teeth (also plastic) that allow setting of discrete "angles" pretty easily, but the cheap plastic construction is concerning. The desk comes with an explicit warning insert not to place objects heavier than 15 pounds due to the possibility of breaking the plastic joints, and this is excellent advice! However, though I followed the advice and never placed anything heaver than my laptop on the table, I managed to break the table joints after only 3 uses when a fully extended leg nabbed the edge of my bed snapping the leg joint so easily I didn't even realize what was happening until it was too late and at much much less than 15 pounds of force (the extended leg essentially acts as a lever amplifying force to the distant joint).I am assuming (for now) that Wizard Desk will replace my broken joint .. but even if they do, this is certainly bound to happen again and again and it is a big hassle to replace.I will update this review when I hear from them on the warranty which will tell me a lot, but Wizard Desk really needs to upgrade to a high strength plastic (machined metal would be way too expensive, but there are high strength plastics that should be able to handle way more than 15 pounds). The upgraded joints (when and if they are produced) should be sent to all customers who bought this.As a design parameter, I think Wizard Desk should assume a lateral force of at least 10 pounds applied to a fully extended leg ... As an added benefit, the 15 pound limit would be increased using hs plastic as well.

(b) The desk is not tall enough to be used as a floor stand with a sofa (e.g., not tall enough to stand on the floor and slide over my knees when seated at a sofa). It needs another 6" which means probably another leg segment. As a lap desk only (cannot use off floor) it has much more limited utility than I expected.

(c) Setting up the table is a bit of a hassle. There are 3 joints on each side, and you have to pull the outside leg segment out first. It is very hard to visualize how the legs will end up when starting at the outside segment, and therefore it takes a lot of trial and error to get the leg positions correct.

All that said, for the few times I got to use the desk, I loved it.It allowed me to perfectly position my laptop when I was semi-reclined on the bed, something no laptop desk could do.And it was extremely light and compact. With some small improvements in the joints this product would be a huge winner.
